The Ten Commandments
1st Commandment
2nd Commandment
3rd Commandment

In recent times there has been a lot said about the Ten Commandments being taking out of schools and other public places. First I would like to say that our country was founding on these Commandments and therefore should be in all Government buildings and Schools.
Second there is a more important role of parent or Guardian that we must play in our homes. If you think the 10 Commandments should be in public places first we must start by posting them in our homes and than we must live by them. If we want the next generation to be a God fearing people this is a good place to start.
It is up to us the Parents and the Grandparents to hand down God's Laws and morals. We must do this by teaching and by modeling what is right by God. I believe if we post the 10 Commandments in our home in a place that they will be seen that they will not only help our Kids but they will also help us as a constant reminder of our responsibilities to our family those around and God.

You shall have no other gods before me.
When this was commanded many people worshiped other Gods, the Sun God, Rain God etc.  Today we do not Worship those Gods for the most part but anything that we put before God could and should be considered a god before our God.  The Gods that come to my mind are power, money, TV, etc.  We as people need to look at our lives and see if we are putting things before God.  Every thing we do should be for the Glory of God if we do something and it is for our personal gain we have put something before our God and that something may not be anyone else's god but it is your god and that is something that needs to be changed in your life.

You Shall Not make for yourself a carved image

In Exodus 20:4-7: It is a little Clearer on what this means.

You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.  You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand who love me and keep my commandments.

When God commanded this the world worshiped many Gods and people built statues to honor the gods of their choosing.  But the people worshiped the objects more than the Gods.  Still to this day there are several Different Gods and some Statues to honor them.

But for most of us we need to see that any object that we may put before God is disobedience to this command.  Examples might be your car or motorcycle, television, Computers, these are just a small sample of what can take the place of God in our lives and we need to beware of them.

You Shall Not take the name of the Lord God in vain

Exodus 20:7
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
I believe when we use Gods name in vain we are talking about the obvious profanity but also if we swear by his name like on the witness stand in court and do not tell the truth that we have used Gods name in vain.  If we are Christians we should take this one step further we should not need to swear to God to be honest our word should be the truth and we should not speak of what we do not know or intentionally mislead or lie to others.  Jesus makes this point in:
Matthew 5:33-37:
Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, "Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.  But I tell you, Do not swear at all: Either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.  And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black.  Simply let you Yes, be Yes and your No,  No; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
